The brand began as a perfume store at 42, rue de Rivoli in Paris, where Pierre-François crafted custom fragrances with the assistance of his sons, Aimé and Gabriel. Guerlain’s dedication to quality and innovation quickly garnered the patronage of high society, leading to the opening of its flagship store at 15, rue de la Paix in 1840.
The brand’s reputation was further solidified in 1853 with the creation of Eau de Cologne Impériale, commissioned by Emperor Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie, earning Pierre-François the title of Official Perfumer of His Majesty.
